I awoke with a choke in my throat.
To my horror,
Upon my nose,
and afront my eyes,
lay a strange interference.
For my vision had become as if the particles which make up matter
had inhaled creating a moving space.
It was as if a fog has descended upon all that I tried to see.
In horror, my hands rose to my face,
and when they made contact,
I felt the cold bite of steel, or some sort of metal,
My fingers fondling past what I could see,
a strap of hardened leather,
clasped the apparatus upon my head.
I cried out, and found myself stumbling out to town.
To my horror,
from what I could see,
all had the same device upon their heads.
"PLEASE TAKE THIS OFF ME"
I cried, but not a notice from any passerby.
What madness was this?
I realized that out of the corners of my eyes, I could see unobstructed.
Each person was going about their daily lives completely normal,
yet with a strange headpiece with two glass slices, metal framework, and strap to secure it to the skull.
I spent the day trying to tell them. They thought me mad.
How could they not see the device upon my head?
How could they not feel it upon their faces?
I could not fall asleep,
how could I fix this?
Night passed with no dreams,
and I awoke to find my vision restored.
My hands desperately clutched the back of my head,
expecting the feel of that leather, but only hair, met hand.
The fear subsided,
"what a peculiar dream"
I gathered my things for the work day,
stepping out to town, a moment of dread gripped my throat as I opened the door.
The street bustled with the hustle of many on their way to the means of their pay.
"Silly" I muttered under my breath, exhaling the dread away.
As I awaited the bus, a young man ran by screaming,
"Can't you see?! Can't you see you've been deceived?!"
The bell of the bus dinged as he ran out of sight.
What a poor man, he must have had a terrible dream.
