The Last Lie

The last lie,
an everlasting splinter,
lodged in my mind.

How I wanted to spare you.
You;
who have already shed so many tears,
in such a short amount time.

The last lie,
an everlasting splinter,
lodged in my mind.

It would bubble up,
but the time was never right.
The more I pushed it down,
The deeper it dwelt, the more it swelled.

Somehow we found a peace,
but every time you spoke fondly of me,
-that splinter would make me screech.

The last lie,
an everlasting splinter,
lodged in my mind.

Releasing soul to flame,
entering the abyss,
Purged,
Cleaned,
Renewed,
and yet the splinter still hissed.

I knew what I had to do.
I only hoped you'd ask me why.
Of course you didn't,
Only who, when what.

How I wanted to spare you.
You;
who have already shed so many tears,
in such a short amount years.

The last lie,
an everlasting splinter,
lodged in my mind.

Finally freed,
I had to abide.
I only hope it softens your heart,
We are all flawed,
We all miss the mark,
but I'm sorry,

I've been sorry since the start.

The last lie,
an everlasting splinter,
finally freed,
I'm sorry and goodbye.
